Dark romance is not a monolith. To ensure you get exactly the kind of dark you crave, every curated selection will be clearly marked with my proprietary Red Flag Rating:

• 🩷 Pink Flag: “He’s obsessive, but he buys her favorite snacks. Cute, right?”
  (Light stalker, morally grey, rom-com adjacent, over the top MMCs, my feminism flew out the window).
• 🚩 Standard Red Flag: “Kidnapping, stalking, mafia. The bread and butter. We can fix him.”
  (Kidnapping, dub-con, mafia, heavy power imbalances).
• 🩸 Blood-Soaked Flag: “Call the FBI (but make it fashion).”
  (Pitch black, extreme taboos, psychological horror, start worrying about your mental health).
• 🔥 Burn the Flag: “Burn the Flag and the Whole Damn Country.”
  (The absolute abyss. Extreme, non-con, severe violence, moral event horizon).

🌑 The Black Envelope Horror Scale: Levels of Darkness

Horror has many subgenres and depths of depravity. We want your consent before we guide you into the shadows. To best do that, please choose your level:

• 🕯️ The Omen: “A bad sign and a weird vibe. You’ll check the locks twice, but you’ll be fine by morning.” (Eerie, mild suspense, gothic atmosphere, things that might just be the wind).
• 🌘 The Shadow: “The bread and butter of dread. Slashers, stalkers, and things waiting in the dark. Lock your doors.” (Classic horror, creature features, psychological thrillers).
• 🌑 The Blackout: “The lights are out, and they aren’t coming back on. Visceral gore, severe dread, and psychological torment.” (Heavy trauma, intense violence, a scene you can’t unsee. Start worrying about your mental health).
• 🕳️ The Abyss: “Pray to a god that isn’t listening. The absolute void. No light, no hope, no happy endings.” (Cosmic horror, extreme taboos, moral event horizon. Proceed only if you have a high tolerance for nothingness).
